Puyallup, WA -- Unified Sports® is an inclusive sports program that combines an approximately equal number of Special Olympics athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) and partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities) on teams for training and competition. Current sports offered in high schools include Unified Soccer, Unified Basketball, Unified Bowling, and Unified Flag Football. Season Format: Throughout the 2016 Soccer Season (March-May), nearly 200 Unified Soccer teams participated in 8 Leagues from across Washington. The Unified Soccer League is designed to mimic the structure of varsity sports, with weekly league play, District Tournaments, and a State Tournament. State Overview: Teams that placed first in their division at one of the five District Tournaments are advanced to compete in conjunction with the WIAA Boys Soccer State Championships. These 10 teams will compete in either Division 1 or Division 2 for the opportunity to be state champions through quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a championship game!
